| Thanks for visiting Sol Design Lab. Our mission is to create interactive and inspiring solutions for urban sustainability, public art, and design.
As society transitions from gasoline cars to electric vehicles, solar charging stations will be crucial for providing the modern urban commuter with independent mobility.
Sol Design Lab has designed and prototyped solar-powered charging stations for electric vehicles and mobile electronics for use at festivals, business districts, campuses, and city transportation networks. These eye-catching and educational billboards announce the arrival of electric vehicles and renewable energy for future green cities.
Imagine turning the corner and instead of your local gas station and convenience store, people are charging their electric bicycles and cell phones at a solar-powered charging station, while lounging in the shade of the solar roof on furniture made from recycled street signs and oil barrels.
The SolarPump combines the adaptive reuse of an American car culture symbol (a 1950's Citgo gas pump), with an interactive system harnessing solar energy to charge up to four electric bicycles and nearly unlimited laptops and cell phones, while LED lighting illuminates public seating crafted from recycled street signs.

We are proud to annouce that three of our unique SolarPump Charging Stations have been placed around the city for the South By Southwest staff and the public to use for the duration of SXSW Week 2010.
A collaborative project of SolDesign Lab and SXSW, Inc, the SolarPump is designed to charge electric bicycles, scooters, laptops, cell phones or ipods, while providing LED lighting and public seating.
Come check them out and get a clean re-charge while you're at it.
